Emailing/IMing for a Cause
As much as people talk about Microsoft being evil, the organization does contribute to social change. Their i’m™ Initiative is one example. Launched in March 2007, they send part of their advertising revenue to a charitable foundation every time a registered user sends an email via Hotmail or an instant message via Messenger. Benefactors include Susan G. Komen, Red Cross, Sierra Club, Boys and Girls Club, and others. They’ve raised over 1 and a half million dollars so far.
It’s a worthwhile program for people who use these email services. You can sign up at http://im.live.com/Messenger/IM/Join/Default.aspx. I ran across an interesting blog for someone who is emailing and IMing for a month. That’s a great commitment. Now, after 18 months, that would be Taking a Stance (or Sit).
