What it takes to rise above trauma:
The common advice people receive after traumatic experiences is to get over it as quickly as possible. But how?
Dr. Melody Ivory, poet and author of The Road M Traveled: Rising Above the Rubble of Trauma…Healing a Tortured Soul and Being the Masterpiece I’m Meant to Be, can help you use performance poetry to heal your heart, mind, body and spirit. In her recent poetry collection and associated one-woman show, she shares the inspirational poems she used to heal from her own experiences of abuse, violence and parental abandoment at the age of seven by both parents.
“I’ve found performance poetry to be a life-altering experience for myself and the women with whom I’ve worked, says Dr. Ivory. “In the safe, supportive and creative environment that I create for them, they are able to express and release lingering affects that they’ve been unable to address before.” Combining over 20 years of work as a performance poet, computer science Ph.D. and her own life experience, Dr. Ivory has had 100% success in turning workshop participants into poets. Part of Melody’s success lies in her computer science background. She has a rare ability to appeal to your artistic nature while offering practical frameworks and exercises to anchor her message and insights.
Changing your mindset about change:
If you find yourself thinking or saying, “I want to change…but I don’t know how” or “It’s just too hard to change…so this is how it has to be”, you simply can’t afford to miss this interview with Dr. Melody Ivory, author of the series—Composing Your Masterpiece Self™ Symphony.
“Every one of the most stressful life events involves change. Even the not-so-stressful events involve change.”, says Dr. Ivory. “I teach a simple and practical approach to change—the Five C’s of Change—that people can use successfully in both cases.” She offers a customized balance of inspiration and education to encourage new thinking, stimulate creativity and uplift your spirits.
Dr. Ivory learned from early life experiences how to change her mindset about change. She spent over 20+ years coping with and adapting to change, including adjusting to an attention deficit disorder to become the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in computer science at UC Berkeley. While working with individuals and organizations, she integrates the practical approach into a customized balance of inspiration and education to encourage new thinking, stimulate creativity and uplift your spirits.
What the left-brain/right-brain myth does to your potential:
Do you consider yourself to be an artistic or logical person? How does that perspective influence your life or career?
“At some point in our journeys, we begin to view ourselves as either left-brained intellectual people or right-brained creative people and shape our lives accordingly,” says poet, author and computer scientist, Dr. Melody Ivory. “In doing so, we restrict our reality to what we think is possible within that particular realm.”
Dr. Ivory teaches you how to develop both sides of your brain quickly with her “15-Minute Intellectual Balancing Sessions.” She developed this daily practice at an early age, and it has led to her expansive work over the past 20 years as a computer science Ph.D., performance poet, college professor, radio host, natural care products developer and author of six books. Now, she is able to offer immersive programs that feature a distinctive mix of performance poetry, inspirational talks and her handcrafted natural care products delivered as part of The Dr. Melody Ivory Experience™. The Experience makes a lasting impression by engaging all the senses into the process unlike any other speaker’s presentation.
“When we consciously choose to treat ourselves as whole-brained limitless people, we can be whatever we want to be and, consequently, expand the possibilities that are available to us,” says Dr. Ivory.
