Redefining Humanity
Are you quick to judge others who are not like you? Do you use our differences to keep yourself separated from others?
Take some time to reflect on what humanity represents.
The Story
In Spring 2006, I wrote and performed this solo play as part of the Solo Performance and Presentation class at Freehold Theatre. This class was/is one of the few acting or performing classes I’ve taken to shape my craft. I was glad that I took it, because Marya Sea Kiminski is a fantastic solo performer to learn from.
This piece was a response to the 2006 Texas assault incident as discussed in my original blog post Being an Agent of Change: Part 2 - The Vision. It is a call to rethink limited perceptions about who is or isn’t human. I enjoyed playing the role of an enlightened drunk raising awareness about how those perceptions influence the atrocities we inflict upon people when we consider them to be non-human.
